Welcome to Mullisen Spanish, a website about Señor Mullisen's Spanish tutoring class.
Señor Mullisen uses an new method of teaching language called "TPRS." This stands for Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling. Instead of the traditional repetitive drills and exercises students experience with traditional textbook instruction, TPRS uses stories, skits and music to teach students to read, write, listen and speak Spanish. For more information on TPRS, please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TPR_Storytelling
Señor Mullisen has taught Spanish levels 1 and 2 at high school and middle school since 2003. The first nine years of his instruction was focused on the textbook's approach to learning; drills and repetitive reading and writing assignments comprised most of his teaching, along with some projects and games.
At the end of his 9th year he decided that the textbook's method was not as effective as he liked, and there had to be a better way to teach Spanish. After attending a three day workshop over the summer, and the subsequent year teaching with TPRS, he discovered it is not only twice as effective, but twice as fun for himself and his students.
